 为了确保Vista（6.0）下的软硬件设备能够在Windows 7 （6.1）下正常运行，微软可谓是花了大心思了，不仅将版本号定了6.1，而不是7.0以确保内核上的兼容性，微软目前正在提供一系列资源以使得软硬件能够适用于Windows 7，其中最主要的2个就是Windows 7 Application Quality Cookbook （Windows 7软件开发质量保证书）和Windows 7 Logo项目 .
Windows 7 Application Quality Cookbook提供通过Windows 7 和Windows Server 2008 R2运行正常认证的程序。通过此Cookbook，开发者们可以将程序无缝整合进Windows 7。而对用户而言，则可以获得更大的可靠性和性能。
而同时，Windows 7 Logo Program则是用来保证设备、系统、程序等的兼容性、稳定性和性能的，有点类似与此前的“Vista Capable”。

As far as Microsoft is concerned, limiting the version number for Windows 7 to 6.1, barely up from Windows Vista v6.0, is a measure designed to help software and hardware developers enjoy compatibility by default between their products and the next iteration of the Windows client. However, this is not the only move from the Redmond company designed to support a high level of compatibility for Vista specific solutions with Windows 7.
